I?m not sure about you, but my allergies have been awful these last few weeks. Every day I wake up with watery eyes, sniffling and sneezing.? I often joke that when my dog sneezes, it?s because she?s also suffering from seasonal allergies or has caught the same bug?that I did. Well, it?s not so?far-fetched.
Just like humans, animals can also suffer from allergies, from skin to food to the environment. Horses, for example, are obviously exposed to dust, mold spores, and allergens in the barn and as they graze in pastures. Likewise, common allergens in? dogs are trees, grass, weed pollens, mold spores, dust mites, dander, and feathers.
So should we just keep our pets and equine friends cooped up, far away from their beloved outdoor environment? No, of course not! I love being outside and try not to let my allergies put a damper on my plans. Some days my allergies are less bothersome in the afternoon, but most of the time I take some sort of medication to relieve my symptoms. I also make it a habit to keep my house clean and dust free as possible, and change my bedding at least every other week.
In the event that dust is the culprit for your dog, clean their bedding once a week and make sure the areas in your house that gather dust is vacuumed weekly. Mold can gather in beds of hay as well, so be sure to keep your horse?s ?bedroom? clean and comfortable! Even if your pets and equine friends aren?t suffering from any noticeable symptoms, it?s still wise to take precaution. ?When it comes down to it, we should all want our dogs and equine friends to be happy and healthy, just like we want to feel ourselves.
If your horse or dog show signs of tearing eyes, coughing, has red irritated skin, or itches (without fleas),? it?s quite possible they may be suffering from environmental allergies. Silver Lining offers products to help support? and maintain those symptoms. #24 Immune Support and #27 Liver Support?is recommended for horses, while #34 Al-R-G Support is recommended for dogs.
And as always, check with your vet to be sure in case there isn?t a greater underlying issue!
