GOTYE'S hit Somebody That I Used to Know has missed out on the MTV video of the year award in Los Angeles.
The Australian singer-songwriter's video clip, which was directed by Melbourne filmmaker Natasha Pincus, lost out to Rihanna's We Found Love at the MTV Video Music Awards.
Somebody That I Used to Know, which has had more than 300 million views on YouTube, also lost in the most share-worthy video and the best editing categories at the awards.
British boy band One Direction were the big winners, taking home three prizes to crown their arrival on the US pop scene.
The five baby-faced guys, contestants on the British version of TV singing contest The X Factor, beat Justin Bieber and Rihanna for best pop video, and fellow all-boy British outfit The Wanted as best new artists.
